At Philo, I led a 6-week experiment aimed at enhancing the first-time user experience by redesigning the onboarding flow for iOS. The objective was to address the cold-start problem by prompting users to select their favorite channels immediately after signing up. This step was designed to personalize content recommendations on the home screen and streamline guide navigation, making it easier for users to discover relevant content right from the start.

A/B testing showed that new users struggled to navigate the app and find relevant content due to the lack of a personalization step, like selecting favorite channels, slowing recommendations and increasing friction in the guide.
